The carbon cycle

The carbon cycle is the bio-geochemical cycle encompassing all elemental carbon exchanges on a planet.

On Earth this cycle is particularly complex; given the various exchanges between water (especially oceans), rocks, living matter (biomass), dead matter and the atmosphere.  

Carbon exchanges are expressed in billions of tons per year or gigatons per year or Gt/year; either of the three formulations  meaning the same thing.

The carbon cycle is the recirculation movement of carbon matter between the atmosphere, the soil, plants, animals and fossil fuels.

When we burn fossil fuels, where carbon has been stored for several million years, the carbon dioxide generated by the combustion process is released into the atmosphere.

We believe that an unusually brutal climate change and warming of the earth's atmosphere has been unravelling over the last several decades . This is largely due to the emissions of two greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4). These atmospheric gas flows and concentrations must be quantified to understand and especially predict the role of human activity in climate change present and future.

To this must be distinguished:

  • fast flows, which may have short term inpacts on the climate ( of the decade to centuries)
  • flows slow enough that the consequences are seen only in the medium term (several centuries);
  • very slow flows, the consequences are seen only in the very long term (several million years), these flows are too slow to be the cause of recent climate change, and can not balance the discharges anthropogenic origin.

The pressures on organizations are becoming stronger to reduce their carbon emissions and greenhouse gases and global warming are universally decried.

Use of biomass and /or  post-recycling residuals materials as clean and renewable fuel and protect your environment.

There are four carbon source reservoirs: the hydrosphere, the lithosphere the biospère and the atmosphere
